I hope everyone is having a great Super Bowl weekend. I have enjoyed the Super Bowl being in Houston this year. This blog is about my love for animals and my strong desire to make a difference in this world by helping them.
I had dogs growing up and 3 cats in college but it was not until my last cat passed away that I fell in love with dogs. I am a failed foster mom but did save many dogs as a great foster mom; I'm very proud of that fact. I have a couple of dogs that I will share funny post about but my intent for these animal post are to focus on the adoption (not shopping or buying) animals from your local shelter. Yes, it is hard to go to a shelter and find your dog. Some times you don't and you have to walk away but I am a proud mommy of 3 shelter dogs. They are special! You have to have a different perceptive for a shelter dog. First, they are not normal in a shelter. Would you be? They are stuck in a small cell with another dog waiting for something but not sure what that something is. Plus there is the non-stop noise of the other dogs barking.
So my Luke came from Montgomery County Animal Shelter. He was almost 2 at the time and heartworm positive. We will discuss that Heartworm positive does not mean a death sentence in a different post but you do need to get treatments for heartworm positive dogs. He was scared and well, not a great dog b.ut he spoke to me. No, he was not the dog I came in for but that dog was at an adoption event. MCAS is great! They try to be a no kill and have reduce pricing, the best videos and pictures plus their volunteers and Rescue Groups are terrific. The staff is wonderful as well. So one of the first questions that I asked when I was in line to get my Luke was about "Clicker" training. The staff got so excited and asked me about it. No Luke was not clicker trained but he is now. Again another post on Clicker training. I was then asked to be a foster which I declined. I live in the country but I know that I have a full house with my current dogs.
So I started full time in Real Estate and was told to get involved with the Animal Shelter. Of course I was excited and I wanted to do this but I had just not followed through. Now I'm going to provide training on clicker training for the adopters and helping out. My post each month will be on a sponsor dog and cat of the month. I will pay for their adoption but encourage the community to participate in the post. Share the post and get these loving animals to their forever home. Spay and Neuter your animals! PLEASE that is my passion in saving animals. So each month I will have a Cat and Dog of the month and I look forward to sharing their great story!I look forward to all of us making a change!
